Most of your prime targets carry Bullshit (otherwise known as "grenades") which you can use to safely remove cover from other aliens (and suicide). Mind Control: Easily the best single ability in the game, especially considering the nightmare that are Alien Squad Leaders. Psi Shadow is great for Scouts/Assaults/Snipers. Psychokinetic strike is great on Infantry. These abilities really differ by class in my opinion.
LONG WAR MELD SKIN
Psi Shadow is a nerfed version of Mimetic Skin that breaks on flank. Psychokinetic Strike is basically ITZ in a can, also awesome.

Telekinetic Field vs Psychokinetic Strike vs Psi Shadow: We're finally back in the realm of good choices! Telekinetic Field grants an impressive 40 defense for a single turn. Long War does not care what your health is at the end of the mission, only how low your troops actually went down to, and since it doesn't heal HP granted by armor, it's outclassed by Mind Meld (and is still awful anyway). Psi Panic is a multi-turn lockdown that works on any organic enemy (most notably Mechtoids, more on that later), so I've always taken it.ĭistortion Field vs Regen Biofield: I've always been of the opinion that while Distortion Field is usually mediocre, Regen Biofield is absolutely garbage. Psi Panic vs Neural Feedback: Ethereals are the only enemy that NF seems to be useful against, and using it against them requires them to be 1. I prefer to have two Melds for every Inspiration soldier so I can heal everyone and stack Will for Mind Control, and I personally never take fray. On the other hand, Inspiration and Fray are situationally useful, one getting your soldier his turn back and Fray basically stunning a single alien. Of all of these, the health is the overpowered part, as it's basically infinite medikits. Mind Meld vs Psi Inspiration vs Mind Fray: Mind meld is hilariously overpowered. What's your prefered setup? My thoughts on the perks (Note I haven't tried all of them thoroughly and the specifics of the abilities are off the top of my head, so please tell me how wrong I am):
